Website care

Someone watching the site, for a number you can see.

A website is software, and software rots quietly — plugins go out of date, backups stop running, a certificate expires on a Saturday. InceptiCode care plans cover the maintenance work that is invisible until it has not been done, plus a stated number of hours of changes each month. Nothing we build depends on one.

Plans

Three plans, and the hours are written down.

Every agency maintenance page in this market promises small changes. Almost none of them say how many. These do.

Essential

Keep the site patched, backed up and reachable.

C$99 per month

Half an hour of changes included

  • Platform, theme and plugin updates applied monthly and checked afterwards
  • Offsite backups taken weekly and kept for 30 days
  • Uptime monitoring, with a real person notified when the site goes down
  • Security patches applied out of hours
  • SSL certificate and domain renewal watched so neither expires quietly
  • Half an hour of content changes each month
  • Quarterly check on load speed and broken links

Priority

For sites that carry the business and cannot wait.

C$349 per month

5 hours of changes included

  • Everything in Standard
  • Five hours of design, content and development work each month
  • Same business day response on anything broken
  • A staging copy of the site, so changes are approved before they go live
  • Accessibility re-scan every quarter against WCAG 2.2 AA
  • A quarterly call to review what the site produced and what to change next

Prices are in Canadian dollars and exclude HST.

What a care plan does not include

Stated plainly, because the gap between what a maintenance plan implies and what it covers is where most of the complaints in this industry come from.

  • Hosting fees — hosting stays in your name, with your host, paid by you. We do not resell it.
  • Domain registration and renewal fees, for the same reason.
  • Paid plugin, app or theme licences.
  • New pages, new sections or new functionality — those are quoted as projects.
  • Ongoing SEO campaigns, content production or ad management.

The terms, in full

Four sentences. A care plan that needs more than that is protecting the agency rather than the client.

  • Month to month. Thirty days notice to stop, and no cancellation fee.
  • Unused hours do not roll over, because holding a backlog of owed time is how agencies end up doing none of it.
  • Work beyond the included hours is quoted first and only starts once you say yes.
  • A care plan is not required to work with us, and no site we build depends on one.

Why hosting stays yours

We manage the host. We do not become the host.

Most agencies resell hosting because it is easy recurring revenue and because it makes leaving difficult. Both of those are reasons not to do it.

Every site InceptiCode builds is hosted on an account in your name, with your payment details, that you can log into. On a care plan we manage that account on your behalf — updates, backups, certificates, the lot — without ever holding it.

The practical consequence shows up on the day you want to work with somebody else. There is no account to extract, no domain to transfer out of an agency's registrar, and no conversation about it. You give the new agency the logins and the handover is finished.

FAQ

What people ask before signing up for a monthly fee

Do I have to take a care plan?

No, and nothing we build depends on one. Every site is handed over with the domain, hosting account and files in your name, and it will keep running whether or not you pay us a monthly fee. A care plan exists because most business owners would rather someone else watched the updates, the backups and the uptime — not because the site stops working without it.

What is actually included in the hours?

Content and design changes to the site you already have: text edits, new images, price and hours updates, a new team member, a seasonal banner, a page duplicated and reworked. Essential includes half an hour a month, Standard two hours, Priority five. New functionality and new sections are quoted as projects, because an hour of a maintenance retainer is not how a booking system gets built.

Is hosting included in the care plan?

No, deliberately. Hosting stays with your host, in your name, paid by you — the same policy as every site we build. Reselling hosting means the agency controls the account, and the day you want to leave becomes an awkward conversation instead of a handover. We will manage the host on your behalf as part of a plan; we will not own it.

What happens if the site goes down at 2am?

Uptime monitoring notifies a person rather than filling an inbox nobody reads until Monday. On Essential and Standard we investigate within business hours; on Priority anything broken gets a response the same business day. Nobody in this market is honestly offering a guaranteed overnight fix on a monthly plan, and we would rather state real hours than a number we cannot meet.

Can I cancel?

Yes, month to month, with thirty days notice and no cancellation fee. You keep everything — the site, the hosting account, the domain and the backups. A care plan that is hard to leave is a care plan that stopped earning its fee, and locking clients in is a way of avoiding that conversation rather than having it.

Do unused hours roll over?

No. Rolled-over hours accumulate into a backlog that agencies quietly never work through, and a client who has banked nine hours starts to feel owed rather than served. If a month goes by with nothing to change, that is a month the plan spent on updates, backups, monitoring and security patching — which is the part of the work that only becomes visible when it has not been done.

Want the site looked after?

Tell us where the site is hosted and what platform it runs on, and we will tell you which plan fits and what it would actually cover. We normally reply within one business day.
